Katie Gardner recently went to Uganda with a team to work with (mostly) kids in internal displacement camps. She taught photography alongside others who were doing long term counseling for those who had been forced to be child soldiers, and medical education. The organization she worked with is instituting long-term care in multiple countries on top of Uganda, primarily focusing on orphans in the surrounding regions.

Her art is evocative, beautiful — the images linger long after you’ve stopped looking.

Julia CR Gray’s artist statement:

The motive for my work remains the same whether the subject is the natural world, the cultural world or a mythical world: to become immersed in the beauty and mystery of the world.  And to share the joy I experience bringing these benevolent beings to life through delicious color and rhythmic paint strokes.

We are all connected on this planet. Poverty, environmental stability, inequality, poor health and lack of education affect the quality of life of all. I believe that my awareness and desire to create balance is integrated in the art I create. I hope I can touch people with this consciousness and even further, create an influence of people taking action to make a difference in others lives and the life of our planet.
